The Wenatchee Wild are one of the hottest teams in the WHL, and Conor Geekie is a big reason why. The Arizona Coyotes' prospect is up to 17 points in his first ten games and is currently riding a five-game point streak. Originally drafted 11th overall in 2021, he continues to show why he was a first-rounder just a few years ago.
To say Geekie has had an impact on the Wild's recent success is an understatement. After starting the season 1-3-1, they have won seven of their last ten games and currently sit fourth in the Western Conference. They also own the league's longest winning streak at the moment, having won five straight, with their star center picking up nine points during that time. Whether it is his ability to win faceoffs or cash in on the power play, he continues to lead by example every time he steps on the ice.
There is also a correlation between Geekie's production and the Wild winning games. When he has recorded a point, the Wild are 7-1 compared to 1-5-1 in games he either failed to hit the scoresheet or did not play. Wenatchee also has a perfect record when he records a power play goal (4-0), records two points (5-0) or has a plus/minus rating of +1 or better (7-0). When he is on his game, the Wild become virtually unbeatable, showing just how valuable he is to this organization.
While there was a debate on whether or not Geekie should have stayed with Arizona this season, it looks as though the decision to send him back to the WHL was the right one. Not only is he thriving, but he has the opportunity to learn from an AHL Hall of Famer in head coach Roy Sommer. So far, he is exceeding expectations this season, which is bad news for any team that lines up against him.
