The Prince George Cougars forward is already closing in on his point total from last season, just ten games in

What a start it's been for Prince George Cougars Ondrej Becher. The Czechian-born forward is already up to 20 points through his first ten games and is just 18 away from setting a new career high. The league leader in goals, assists, and points among import players, he has proven to be a difference-maker regardless of the on-ice situation.

Becher is the perfect example of why teams must be patient with import players. While he had a decent campaign in 2022-23, with 38 points in 63 games, he was a very streaky player, especially at the start of the season. Now that he has had that year to settle in and get used to the smaller North American ice surface, he is starting to show the same offensive flair he had while playing for AZ Havířov in the Czechia U20 league back in 2021-22.

While Becher is having a fantastic offensive season, there have also been improvements to the defensive side of his game. He is becoming more comfortable on the penalty kill, which has led to the first two shorthanded goals of his career and looks to have worked on his positioning this offseason. While his offensive start has been impressive, it's his play away from the puck that should be commended so far this season.

While it is early in the season, Becher's improved play indicates he can keep up this pace for the rest of the season. If he can, it would also help him get one step closer to hearing his name called at the 2024 NHL Draft. A talented, versatile player who continues to get better week to week, he has become one of the league's most dangerous players so far this season.
