Through the first month of the WHL season, 2024 NHL Draft prospects have led the way with standout performances across the league. With 63 prospects named to NHL Central Scouting's Players to Watch list, the WHL is once again expected to have a strong showing in late June. Here is a look at five prospects who have come out flying to start the 2023-24 season.

    Terik Parascak- Prince George Cougars

Already up to 15 goals in 12 games, Terik Parascak is off to a dream start with the Prince George Cougars. The 17-year-old winger also leads all WHL rookies with 25 points and is one of seven players to score two shorthanded goals this season. Listed as a "B" prospect, he could be one of this year's biggest draft board risers if he continues this level of production for the rest of the year.

    Tij Iginla- Kelowna Rockets

It is safe to say that Tij Iginla has benefited from his move to the Kelowna Rockets. The "B" ranked prospect has 13 goals in his first 12 games and sits tied for sixth in league scoring with 21 points. One of the league's top power play producers with five goals, he is currently on pace to beat his dad, Jarome's draft season point total of 71.

    Tanner Howe- Regina Pats

Tanner Howe continues to show the hockey world just how good of a prospect he is. The Pats' captain has 20 points through his first 13 games and has been given an "A" ranking by NHL Central Scouting. Whether it is winning faceoffs or generating opportunities for his teammates, he continues to evolve into one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft.

    Carter Yakemchuk- Calgary Hitmen

One of the top-ranked defencemen in this year's draft, Carter Yakemchuk, has lived up to his "A" ranking for NHL Central Scouting. Listed at 6'3", 194 pounds, the right-shot defender continues to show off his physical game while being productive in the offensive zone. If he can continue this strong start, he should be a first-rounder come draft time.

    Jan Špunar- Portland Winterhawks

Jan Špunar has been virtually unbeatable through his first seven games. He is a perfect 7-0 so far and has only allowed more than one goal once this season. While he is an older player who will be 20 once draft time rolls around, it would be a mistake for teams to pass on if based on his early start.
