The U Sports national championships for women's hockey will be heading east in 2027 and 2028 as the tournament will be hosted in Fredericton and Halifax those seasons.
The University of New Brunswick has been selected to host the 2027 U Sports women's national hockey championships. The tournament will be held in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
"This City loves university sport as witnessed by the tremendous crowds UNB draws for both women’s and men’s hockey programs," said Pierre Arsenault, U Sports Chief Executive Officer. "UNB and the City’s commitment to supporting both championships as well as the interest from the corporate community means that the participating teams and their fans will have an outstanding experience at the Aitken Centre.”
New Brunswick's women's program has become a perennial contender not only for the AUS title, but in national competition as well. They are the back-to-back-to-back AUS champions, and last year were eliminated from the quarter-finals of the national championships.
“Since the return of our women’s hockey program, our student-athletes and coaches have pushed the bar incredibly high in a very short period of time," said John Richard, UNB's Athletic Director. "After appearing in three national championship tournaments as conference champion, it’s only natural for us to soon be hosting a U SPORTS national championship tournament. UNB has a strong record of hosting national championship events, and we look forward to extending that record and improving on it with women’s hockey in 2027.”
The national championships will stay in the Maritimes for the 2028 tournament as Halifax has been selected to host the event.
The Concordia Stingers are the reigning U Sports women's hockey national champions.
