
Venla Hovi, former head coach of the PHF's Metropolitan Riveters, has been hired as an assistant coach with Harvard University's women's hockey team.

Harvard but the final piece of their new coaching staff together hiring former Metrpolitan Riveters head coach Venla Hovi as an assistant.
Hovi, a two-time Olympic medalist representing Finland, joins head coach Laura Bellamy in the completion of an all-new Harvard coaching staff.
"We are very excited to add Venla to our staff. She brings experience from the highest levels, playing in three Olympic Games and coaching most recently in the professional ranks," said Bellamy in a school news release. "Venla's ability to communicate clearly with her players and develop them as individuals will serve us well. The Harvard community is comprised of people from all over the world and we are proud that our coaching staff is a reflection of that. Her familiarity with high performance environments will help us as we strive for a return to national prominence in women's ice hockey."
Bellamy was named new head coach for Harvard following the resignation of Katey Stone, who was facing dozens of allegations related to abuse and hazing.
Prior to coaching with the Metropolitan Riveters, Hovi served as a development coach with the NHL's Winnipeg Jets, and also as an assistant coach with the University of Manitoba. She also coached the Okanagan Hockey Academy.
As a player, Hovi owns a total of six World Championship and Olympic medals including one silver and five bronze. She also won a CWHL title with the Calgary Inferno and a USports national championship with Manitoba.
