Gabrielle David discusses her choice to sign with the PHF's Boston Pride, joining some of the top players in the world as she aims to continue her development.
Gabrielle David was one of the best players in the NCAA this season, and she's ready to take the step up to the PHF this season after signing with the Boston Pride.
Having the opportunity to graduate from college hockey and sign a liveable professional contract hasn't always been an option, but it has always been a dream for David.
"Since I'm young I've been seeing the best players, but no league," she said.
"In my head it was like, I have to find a real job right after school, and then last year, all of a sudden, the salary cap doubled, so it was like, okay now this is something that is possible and I can live from hockey...for me it was something I've dreamed since I'm a little girl."
David scored 52 points in 42 games this season for the Clarkson Golden Knights, good for 10th in national scoring. She played alongside some of the top players in the nation, and choosing Boston gave her the opportunity to continue playing alongside the best, not only in the NCAA, but in the World. Boston's roster this season will include national team members including Alina Muller (Switzerland) and Chloe Aurard (France), and former national team members such as Loren Gabel (Canada) and Kali Flanagan (USA).
"That was a big point for me because I think you develop more in practice...knowing that a lot of good players were going to Boston, I was like, okay, I can develop more, and when you play with good players too, you upgrade your level and the plays are always faster and you can make more plays with good players."
