Former USA national team member Shelly Picard has joined the Long Island University Sharks women's hockey coaching staff.
For the past two seasons, Picard has served as an assistant coach with Princeton University, but is moving to LIU to help continue the growth of the program.
"Just seeing how much Long Island University is building in its few years…last year with the championship and there is just so much buzz around it," Picard said in an LIU Sharks news release. "It seems like a special place to be and I'm excited to build off what they did last year and kinda build the LIU legacy."
Picard, 30, won four World Championship gold medals and a silver as a member of Team USA, most recently capturing gold in 2019. Picard also won Olympic silver and U-18 World Championship gold and silver representing USA.
Following her NCAA career where she captained Harvard, Picard played three seasons with the Metropolitan Riveters, captaining the club in her final season as a player in 2019.
"We're very excited to welcome Shelly to the Shark family," said head coach Kelly Nash. Nash was a teammate of Picard's with the Riveters.
"Shelly brings a great deal of experience as a former player and as a coach that we fully believe will continue to help bring success to this program. We have no doubt she will go above and beyond to contribute to the overall team's successes, as well as to each and every players individual successes as student-athletes here at LIU."
