Connecticut has landed another top Canadian NCAA free agent, as Maude Poulin-Labelle has signed a one-year deal with the Whale.

Defender Maude Poulin-Labelle, an NCAA standout with Northeastern University, has agreed to a one-year, $69,000 contract with the PHF's Connecticut Whale. The contract included a $4000 signing bonus.
"Maude is a highly-talented player with a bright future ahead of her in the PHF,” said Colton Orr, Connecticut's head coach.
“Her exceptional skating ability, strong defensive play, and offensive contributions make her a valuable asset to the Whale. We are excited to welcome her to the team and see her continue to develop and thrive at the professional level."
Poulin-Labelle, 23, is a Sherbrooke, Quebec product who spent four seasons at the University of Vermont before transferring to Northeastern for her final NCAA campaign. At Northeastern she played alongside fellow recent PHF signees Alina Müller and Chloe Aurard.
Poulin-Labelle holds the all-time Vermont record for points by a defender, and also the single season points and goals record by a blueliner, which she set in 2021-2022 when she scored 13 goals and 35 points. That season Poulin-Labelle was named a Second Team All-American.
After her fifth season played at Northeastern, where Poulin-Labelle earned Hockey East Second-Team All-Star recognition, she'll join a Connecticut Whale blueline that also includes veterans Kacey Bellamy and Allie Munroe.
“I'm thrilled to join the pod and be part of this organization,” said Poulin-Labelle in a team news release. “I can't wait to connect with the staff, teammates, and the community. In the upcoming year, I want to excel in both defense and offense, becoming a dynamic force on the team. Together, let's work towards our shared goal of bringing the Isobel Cup to the pod.”
