Ella Boerger is Minnesota's Ms. Hockey. It's a moniker that has been given to numerous Olympians, World Champions, and professional women's hockey players for their outstanding high school performances. The future looks bright for Boerger, who dominated last season en route to being crowned the top high school player in the state.

Boerger had 41 goals and 78 points in 29 games this season for Andover High School. During her tenure with the school, Boerger also helped Andover win a pair of state championships.

She has been such a strong player in our program for four years due to her work ethic and team-first mentality,” Andover head coach Melissa Volk told ABC Newspapers. “She has improved a ton over her career in her skills and leadership due to her work ethic and true love for hockey.”

“She has a strong shot with a quick release,” Volk said. “As a penalty killer, she is able to anticipate plays and block shots.”

Boerger is set to play for St. Thomas, alongside an incoming recruitment class of other top Minnesota high school players including Ellah Hause and Rylee Bart, among others.

“I really love the coaches and the campus,” Boerger said in an Andover news release. “I fell in love with the school as soon as I went on my visit. I think they (St. Thomas women’s hockey) have a really great future and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Former Ms. Hockey winners in Minnesota include Taylor Heise, Grace Zumwinkle, Allie Thunstrom, Dani Cameranesi, and Hannah Brandt.

“I can’t believe that my name will be on the same list as some of those players,” Boerger said. “Everything they have done for the game, I hope I can live up to that and have as much success as they all have had. It is such an honor.”

Stepping into the University of St. Thomas, which is still in its infancy as a Division I program, Boerger will have a chance to contribute immediately, and with any luck, she will help St. Thomas find the same level of success she brought to Andover.
