According to a report by the London Free Press, players on Western University's women's hockey team have been given an ultimatum, "Either play or quit."

The reported ultimatum was given in a survey sent to players this week, which intended to have players "signal your intention to continue as a player for the remainder of the 2023/24 season under the leadership of head coach Candice Moxley."

Moxley is at the center of ongoing controversy facing allegations of abuse and misconduct by players, past and present, on the Western women's hockey team.

Allegations from players include Moxley telling athletes "I don't care" when players needed mental health assistance, and Moxley pressuring players to play through serious injuries. Players also allege Moxley and Western staff were informed about sexual harassment by strength and conditioning coach Jeff Watson and did not act.

"We had an expectation that Western University would believe us, the survivors of the psychological abuse we faced from Coach Moxley," the players wrote in their letter.

As a result, Western players threatened to boycott any practice or game involving Moxley, but the school is now providing their own ultimatum according to the London Free Press, telling players to play, or quit.

Moxley was not present at Wednesday's practice, which she was originally scheduled to run in her return from a leave of absence. Instead, Moxley will return Friday.
