The Delaware Blue Hens will drop the puck as the newest member of NCAA DI women's hockey in 2025-2026, with now former Penn State associate head coach Allison Coomey at the helm.

Allison Coomey will serve as the first ever head coach for the University of Delaware Blue Hens women's hockey team. Coomey will begin preparations for her roster and program April 1, 2024, in preparation for Delaware's inaugural NCAA Division I season in 2025-2026.
"It's an honor to help bring the excitement of Division I Ice Hockey to the 302," said Coomey in a University of Delaware news release. "The University of Delaware is an extraordinary institution and is globally recognized for its excellence. The support for student-athletes and state-of-the-art athletic facilities have given us a solid foundation to build upon."
Coomey comes from soon-to-be CHA rival Penn State where she's served as associate head coach since 2020-2021.
Prior to her promotion, Coomey was named the NCAA's assistant coch of the year in 2019 and has coached in the NCAA with Penn State, Boston University, and Niagara University.
She's also served various roles within USA Hockey including as a scout for USA's 2022 Olympic team, coach of USA's collegiate select team and in various capacities.
The Delaware Blue Hens will become the seventh member of the NCAA's CHA conference playing against Penn State, Mercyhurst, Robert Morris, RIT, Lindenwood, and Syracuse.
