Kendall Coyne Schofield hasn’t donned a USA jersey in IIHF play since 2022. She had her welcome back moment to open the 2024 Worlds scoring in a win over Switzerland.
Kendall Coyne Schofield went from achieving life goals with the birth of her first child last year, to seeing a goal of a new professional league launch, to returning to ‘just’ scoring goals.
In her first game back with Team USA after missing the 2023 World Championships, Coyne Schofield had a welcome back moment at the 16-minute mark of the second period.
Finding a rebound on the doorstep, Coyne Schofield jammed home the loose puck in the paint while being knocked to the ice. It was her first goal in an IIHF competition since 2022, and put USA ahead of Switzerland 2-0 en route to a 3-0 win.
Defender Haley Winn who plays for Clarkson in the NCAA opened the scoring for USA early in the second, and Hilary Knight would add a powerplay marker in the third.
Winn closed out the game with her second of the game, with Coyne Schofield picking up a helper.
Swiss netminder Andrea Brandli was spectacular in the loss stopping 51 shots. Aerin Frankel had 11 saves in the shutout.
