The IIHF announced their 2024 Hall of Fame induction class which included women Natalie Darwitz as a player and Mel Davidson as a builder.
Natalie Darwitz and Mel Davidson were announced as members of the 2024 IIHF Hall of Fame induction class.
Darwitz, a long time USA national team star and captain was named an IIHF World Championship All-Star four times and an Olympic Games All-Star once. At the 2008 tournament, Darwitz led the event in scoring and was named the Best Forward. In total, she's collected three World Championship gold and five silver medals. At the Olympic Games, Darwitz has two silver and a bronze.
This year Darwitz is serving as the general manager for the PWHL's Minnesota franchise. Darwitz will be inducted as a player.
Davidson will be inducted to the builder category after playing an integral role in the development of women's hockey in Alberta, Canada, and coaching Canada's national team program. As a coach, Davidson coached Team Alberta at the 1991, 1995, and 1999 Canada Winter Games, and served as an assistant coach at the 2002 Olympic Games for Team Canada winning a gold medal. Following that event she joined Cornell University as head coach, and was promoted to Canada's head coach prior to the 2006 Olympics and again for the 2010 Olympics where she won back-to-back gold medals with Canada. Following her tenure as a coach, Davidson served as general manager for Team Canada, and has more recently become involved in professional women's hockey with the PHF and PWHL.
