It didn't take long for Switzerland to tally their first goal of the quarterfinals. In fact, it came on their first shot of the game as teenager Ivana Wey beat Sanni Ahola off the rush on the backhand. That however, would be their last goal, as Finland would secure the 3-1 win and eliminate Switzerland from the quarterfinals.

Switzerland's top line of Wey, Alina Muller, and Lara Stalder generated the bulk of their pressure and offensive opportunities in this game and tournament.

Passing the midway point in the period, Petra Nieminen responded for Finland, wrapping the puck around Switzerland's net before banking her attempt off a Swiss skate and in to tie the game 1-1. Both teams traded powerplay opportunities with little success before Susanna Tapani got the go ahead goal with 3:26 remaining in the second period. Nieminen carried the puck through the offensive zone before reversing the flow with a pass to Tapani who was on the doorstep for the redirect beating Andrea Brandli.

Brandli was caught off guard in the third as Nelli Laitinen made it 3-1. Laitinen walked to the slot before shooting, but the puck deflected off a Swiss stick jumping up and over a crowd, and over the head of Brandli before dropping unseen by her into the net. The fluky goal ended Switzerland's momentum shifting the game further toward the Finns.

Finland outshot Switzerland 37-17 in the game eliminating Switzerland from medal contention and guaranteeing they'll play for a medal.
