Canada may have outshot the Americans, but it was Team USA who took game one of the Rivalry Series. Taylor Heise, the first overall pick in the PWHL Draft, scored the game winner early in the third period of USA's 3-1 decision.

In the first period, USA netminder Aerin Frankel was spectacular, turning aside 11 shots to give her team time to gain their footing. With only eight seconds remaining in the frame, Abbey Murphy stole a puck in the neutral zone using her speed to beat Canadian defenders to the net, but it was the trailing Hilary Knight who scooped up the loose puck and slid the puck behind Canadian goalie Emerance Maschmeyer.

In the second period, Brianne Jenner finished off her own rebound to finally crack Frankel and tie the game at 1-1 heading to the third period.

In the third, Taylor Heise found herself in open ice in the slot grabbing a pass from Hilary Knight to bury what would stand as the game winner.

Late in the third, Alex Carpenter won a foot race to a loose puck off a Canadian miscue and powered her way to the net beating Maschmeyer five hole for the insurance goal to cap a 3-1 win for the Americans.

Frankel stopped 35 shots in the win, while USA took 24 shots on Maschmeyer.
