HV71 dropped their opening two games of the SDHL season. The team immediately responded bolstering their lineup by adding NCAA grad Julia Nearis.

After dropping their first two games of the SDHL season, HV71 is bringing in a reinforcement. Monday afternoon, the team announced the signing of NCAA graduate Julia Nearis. Nearis spent four seasons as a Boston University Terrier before completing her Graduate season at Quinnipiac.

HV71 head coach Thomas Pettersen is pleased with the signing.

“In Julia, we get the type of player we’ve been looking for, and who will fit in well with the team we are trying to build. She is a right-shooting power forward with good game sense and an excellent shot,” said Pettersen on the team’s website.

Nearis’ addition immediately makes HV a more dangerous team. She will join a group that is still in the process of finding its identity under new Head Coach Pettersen. Over the summer, Jessica Adolfsen and Teghan Inglis joined on defence, while the team added Rachel Weis and Kennedy Bobyck up front.

Last season’s top scorer, Elin Svensson, returns and will look to build on her career-best 30 points in 34 games. Nearis should complement these players and provide additional offence, as the team strives to avoid the dreaded Relegation Round this postseason.
