Only one month remains until the puck officially drops on the inaugural World Para Ice Hockey Women's World Championship. The tournament is set to take place from August 26-31 in Dolny Kubin, Slovakia.
Team USA and Team Australia will play the first ever game in women's para ice hockey World Championship history on August 26 at 4pm.
USA and Australia are joined by Norway in Group A, while Canada, Great Britain, and Team World are in Group B.
"This isn’t just about the competition, it represents the resilience, passion and determination of every woman who has ever got in a sled, fought for ice time, and believed this day would come," Team Canada head coach Tara Chisholm said in an interview with the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
‘"It’s a victory for all players and volunteers, over the past two decades, who have given their time, energy, and heart to growing women’s Para ice hockey. Now the next generation will have something they never had – a global stage to showcase their talent and a clear path forward in the sport they love."
Women's para ice hockey has been working toward the foundation of a World Championship tournament for years. The primary event leading up to this was the Para Ice Hockey Women's World Challenge which was founded in 2022 held in Green Bay, Wisconsin. USA won the first three World Challenge's including two on home soil, and the 2024 tournament which was held in Skien, Norway. USA was dominant in 2024 outscoring their opponents 27-0 in four games to earn gold.
Team USA will enter the 2025 World Championships as the heavy favorite.
