Michelle Karvinen is one of the greatest women's hockey players to ever come from Europe. She secured that legacy Monday scoring the game-winner for Finland over Switzerland in Finland's final round robin game of the 2025 IIHF women's World Championships.

The goal made Karvinen Finland's all-time leading scorer at the World Championships. Karvinen entered the game tied with Riikka Sallinen at 60 points each.

Her second period goal against Finland gave Karvinen 61 points making her Finland's all-time leading scorer.

Sallinen was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022, and was inducted to Finland's Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007, and the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2010.

Karvinen is expected to declare for the 2025 PWHL Draft. The 34-year-old is a three-time World Championship All-Star. She was also named Best Forward at the 2014 Olympic Games. This season Karvinen captained Frolunda to their first ever SDHL championship
