Team Canada went all in on change announcing their women's national team roster for the 2026 IIHF World Championships, a group that includes seven players set to make their World Championship debut.
Hockey Canada knew they needed to make change ahead of the 2026 World Championships to begin their rebuild toward the 2030 Olympics. They did just that making sweeping changes to their women's national team roster ahead.
Canada's 25-player roster will include seven players making their World Championship debut including Caitlin Kraemer, Rebecca Leslie, Sara Manness, Kendall Cooper, Hayley McDonald, Rosalie Tremblay, and Sarah Wozniewicz.
Canada's roster will also include six players still in the NCAA, a group that includes Eve Gascon, Chloe Primerano, Kraemer, Manness, McDonald, and Tremblay.
It was the first roster named under new general manager Daniele Sauvageau.
“We are thankful for all of the athletes who attended training camp last week in Quebec City and provided intense competition ahead of the world championship. Heading into the first international competition of this Olympic quadrennial, we are thrilled to have such amazing talent within our program,” said Sauvageau. “We are excited about the players who have been named to Team Canada as we compete for a gold medal in Denmark, while looking at the long-term success of our program.”
Returning to Team Canada are 13 members of their silver medal winning roster from Milan including Erin Ambrose, Emily Clark, Ann-Renee Desbiens, Renata Fast, Sarah Fillier, Sophie Jaques, Emma Maltais, Kristin O'Neill, Kayle Osborne, Ella Shelton, Laura Stacey, Kati Tabin, and Daryl Watts. It also marks the return to Team Canada of Jessie Eldridge after a long absence from the program, as well as the return of Nicole Gosling and Danielle Serdachny who were both left off Canada's Olympic roster.
The group will be guided, for the first time, by Montreal Victoire head coach Kori Cheverie who will make her Canadian national team head coaching debut with Canada this month. “Following a strong training camp in Quebec City, our coaching staff is excited to continue building toward the world championship with the athletes selected to represent Canada,” said Cheverie. “There is a great sense of energy, hunger and determination within this group. We’re looking forward to building on that momentum as we prepare to compete in Denmark.”
Canada will be joined in Group B by Denmark, Finland, Japan and Sweden. They'll play a pair of pre-tournament games against USA October 28 and 30.
End Of The Road For Long Time Veterans
With the presence of many new faces, it also marks the end of a long road with Team Canada for others, most notably Brianne Jenner, Jocelyn Larocque, Sarah Nurse, Emerance Maschmeyer, and Natalie Spooner. Canada will also be without Marie-Philip Poulin and Blayre Turnbull who were ruled out prior to camp.
Other notable cuts included Julia Gosling and Jennifer Gardiner who both represented Canada at the Olympics and were considered part of Canada's young core. Gosling missed Canada's camp due to injury.
