
Alina Muller scored her first two goals of the IIHF World Championships, including the overtime winner to help Switzerland finish fifth.

It's an overlooked game on the day of the IIHF's semifinals, but the IIHF's placement game is not one without meaning, particularly to Germany and Switzerland who were fighting for a better seed heading to 2024.
Needing overtime to be decided, Alina Muller played hero scoring the winner to help Switzerland place fifth in the tournament with the 3-2 win.
In the opening frame, Alina Muller got her first of the tournament tipping home a Lara Christen point shot to send Switzerland to the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.
Germany continued to press in the second period and it eventually paid off with Luisa Welcke tapping home a cross crease pass from sister Lilli Welcke to tie the game at 1-1.
Just over two minutes later however, Ivana Wey found Lara Stalder on the rush with a backhand pass and Stalder slid it through Sandra Abstreiter's five hole to regain Switzerland's lead. Before the end of the period, Emily Nix scored a pretty goal for Germany to again tie the game at 2-2 heading to the third.
After a third period collision sent Swiss starter Andrea Brandli to the dressing room forcing Saskia Maurer into action, the momentum shifted with Switzerland playing more aggressively to keep the puck in Germany's zone.
The game however, would go to three on three overtime.
In the extra frame, Alina Muller scored the winner beating Sandra Abstreiter blocker side.
