Hungary and France were the two teams relegated from the top division of the IIHF women's World Championships. In their first three games of the Division 1A tournament, Norway has beat them both, setting themselves up for promotion.
Their final two games of the tournament come against the Netherlands and South Korea, both winless to open the tournament. A single regulation win against either team would guarantee promotion as France and Hungary still need to face each other.
After a scoreless opening period against Hungary that saw Norway outshot 14-3, the Norwegians struck first crossing the midway point in the game as Mathea Fischer tallied with the assist to Emma Bergesen. Both players are expected to declare for the 2024 PWHL Draft.
The game remained tied until late in the third when Alexandra Huszka tied things at 1-1 forcing overtime, and eventually a shootout. After both teams traded goals early in the shootout, it was Millie Rose Sirum who notched the finisher for Norway in the eighth round to give Norway the win and the extra point in the game.
Ena Nystrom was stellar in net for Norway stopping 41 shots in the win.
With Norway looking secure in promotion, the final spot will come down to either France or Hungary, with today's game between the Netherlands and South Korea likely deciding who is relegated.
