Caroline Ouellette and Sandra Dombrowski were honored by the IIHF Hall of Fame, Ouellette a legendary player, and Dombrowski the first woman to join the official's category.

As the 2023 IIHF men's World Championship comes to a close, the IIHF honored their 2023 Hall of Fame induction class.

Among the inductees are Canadian legend Caroline Ouellette and official Sandra Dombrowski.

Caroline Ouellette is one of the most decorated athletes in women's hockey history winning four Olympic gold medals, six World Championship gold, six World Championship silver, four CWHL Clarkson Cup championships, and one NCAA national title. A role model to the current generation of stars, Ouellette credited one of her own role models, early Canadian national team member France Montour for inspiring her career. Ouellette saw Montour play at the inaugural 1990 women's World Championship and it changed her path forever.

“In 1990 my new dream became real,” Ouellette told the IIHF. “That just shows the importance of role models. France had huge importance in my life. She challenged me to become fitter and a better athlete. I made Team Canada on talent only. After talking to France, I decided to become the best athlete I could be.”

Ouellette is one of the leading candidates to also be inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Also entering the IIHF Hall of Fame is official Sandra Dombrowski. Dombrowski played for Switzerland at the 1987 unofficial World tournament, and then in 1992 became the first woman to officiate a World Championship gold medal game. Dombrowski was also the first woman to serve on the IIHF Referees' Committee.

Dombrowski becomes the first woman ever inducted to the IIHF Officials' category.
