Ann-Frédérique Guay, who leads Switzerland’s PostFinance Women’s League with 33 points in 11 games, will undergo hamstring surgery. The HC Fribourg-Gottéron forward is expected to miss 12 weeks but could return before the end of the regular season.
Unfortunate news out of Switzerland’s PostFinance Women’s League. HC Fribourg-Gottéron forward Ann-Frédérique Guay has injured the hamstring tendon in her right leg and will require surgery.
The timing couldn’t be worse for the Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Quebec, native, who leads the PFWL in scoring with 33 points through 11 games. Her line with France’s Estelle Duvin and Switzerland’s Norina Müller had combined for 87 points, making it by far the league’s most productive trio this season.
The injury occurred midway through the first period of her October 25 game, when she bent over while battling for the puck and felt a pop in the back of her thigh. Just a day earlier, she had delivered a remarkable 8-point performance.
She is scheduled to undergo surgery on November 4 and is expected to miss 12 weeks, meaning she could be returning for the final 2 games of the regular season and the playoffs.
“Of course, it’s tough to go through this after such a strong start to the season, especially with the goals we had set, but I know I can’t change the situation,” Guay told The Hockey News. “I want to focus on what I can control and do everything I need to do to get back to the top of my game so I can keep making a difference and help my team win in the playoffs.”
