Several women are taking part of the IIHF's Road to Milano 2026 project bringing more women on the ice, not as players but as officials to the 2026 Olympic Games.
Following the 2022 Olympics, the IIHF launched Road to Milano 2026, "a first-of-its-kind project in which a targeted group of 25 female game officials will have access to elevated development opportunities in the lead up to the final game official selection for the next Olympics."
That access includes more high level officiating opportunities for women between World Championships, utilizing seven different international break tournaments in Europe, as well as participation in national stream events in North America.
Every event the 25 officials participate in is also monitored by an IIHF officiating coaches to begin developing a long list of women's candidates for the 2026 Olympics and to "provide game officials with the resources they need to perform at the highest level and empower them to reach new heights in their officiating careers."
