Blanka Skodova is transferring leagues leaving Finland's top team, HIFK, to hopefully salvage a tumultuous start for Sweden's AIK.
"I want to thank AIK for this opportunity and I look forward to taking on this opportunity," said Skodova in a translated news release. "I also want to thank HIFK for the support and understanding that I made this decision. I am now looking forward to moving to Stockholm and getting to know my new team soon."
Skodova had five wins in five games for HIFK this season posting a 1.40 GAA and .926 save percentage. Skodova also backstopped Czechia to a World Championship bronze medal this year stepping in for incumbent starter Klara Peslarova who was injured.
Skodova's move to AIK was necessitated by the absence of Cami Kronish, the national championship winning netminder from Wisconsin who signed with the club in the offseason. After playing one game with AIK however, Kronish left the club "due to personal reasons"
"Under the current circumstances, we have decided that it is best to secure with one more goalkeeper," said AIK head coach Conny Olausson of the situation.
Kronish will attend PWHL Boston's training camp next month.
AIK is currently 0-8 on the season being outscored 43-5. The team is in serious risk of relegation should their season not take a turn.
