Vicky Sunohara and Nadine Muzerall have been tabbed to lead Hockey Canada's national development team and U-18 national teams respectively.
Hockey Canada has announced the coaching and support staffs to lead their national development team and U-18 national team. Those programs will be led by Vicky Sunohara as head coach of Canada's women's national development team, and Nadine Muzerall as head coach of Canada's U-18 national tem.
“We are excited to announce Vicky and Nadine as the head coaches for our development and under-18 teams for the season,” said Cherie Piper, senior manager of scouting and player development for Hockey Canada's women's teams.
“Alongside their support staffs, the coaches will guide our players in taking the next step in their careers while elevating the level of play across Canada. These teams require a high level of dedication from the coaching staffs and we are confident in their abilities to guide our athletes on the international stage this year.”
Sunohara is heading into her 16th season as head coach at the University of Toronto. She will be joined on her staff by Clarkson head coach Matt Desrosiers and Penn State assistant coach Jennifer Wakefield. Their staff will also include goalie coach Sheldon Goertzen and video coach Carlee Campbell.
Muzerall is making her Hockey Canada coaching debut as new head coach of the U-18 national team. She's entering her 11th season as head coach of Ohio State winning national titles with the program in 2022 and 2024. Ohio State has drawn several past members of Canada's U-18 national team to their program, including multiple recruits joining the program next season.
Muzerall will be joined on her staff by Marc-André Côté (University of Moncton), AUS) and Alison Domenico (University of Ottawa), as well as goalie coach Brad Fogal and video coach Jackson Rajcic (Arizona State University)
Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camp, and National Development team are set to hit the ice in August for a camp in Richmond, British Columbia before hostng a three-game seris against USA.
Canada’s national women’s U-18 team will play at the 2027 IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship from January 8-16 in Ostrava, Czechia.
