Utica, New York hosted a press conference to introduce the region to the upcoming 2024 IIHF women's World Championships.

According to former NHL and Team USA netminder Robert Esche, who as the president of Mohawk Valley Garden and the Utica Comets was integral in bringing the event to the region, it's going to be a spectacle unlike any the region has seen.

“Hosting this event is an opportunity for us to show everything Utica has to offer,” said Esche. “We plan to make it a twelve day spectacle unlike anything the area has seen, from showcasing local businesses and event spaces, to the fan zone festivities surrounding the building, through the games inside the Adirondack Bank Center. Our goal is to make this the best Women’s World Championship to date, and to show the world how strong the hockey community is in Utica.”

Team USA enters the tournament as reigning champions after beating Canada in the gold medal game in 2023 in Brampton, Ontario. Czechia won bronze.

The 29 game tournament schedule will be released later this month seeing Group A action between Canada, USA, Czechia, Switzerland, and Finland, and Group B competition between Sweden, Japan, Germany, and recently promoted China, and Denmark.

The tournament will run from April 3-14.
