Team USA named their final roster for the 2024 IIHF World Championships including five players who will make their World Championship debuts.

USA Hockey announced their 2024 World Championship roster and there are plenty of fresh faces in the lineup.

Returning Players 

Eighteen players return from USA's 2023 gold medal winning roster to provide the core of USA's roster. On the blueline Cayla Barnes, Savannah Harmon, Caroline Harvey, Megan Keller, Haley Winn, and Rory Guilday bring veteran depth. Their forward group saw more fresh faces, but also includes a group of veterans led by Hilary Knight, Alex Carpenter, Hannah Bilka, Hayley Scamurra, Abbey Murphy, Taylor Heise, Kelly Pannek, Lacey Eden, and Tessa Janecke. In net, Aerin Frankel and Nicole Hensley are back.

Meet The Newcomers

As they've done in recent years, USA Hockey is bringing youth to the Worlds. Laila Edwards and Kirsten Simms from Wisconsin both join the mix. The duo were dominant in the NCAA and Simms was USA's leader at the Rivalry Series, while also leading the NCAA in scoring. National champion and NCAA Rookie of the Year Joy Dunne also cracked the lineup at forward. On the blueline Sydney Morrow was the lone newcomer, but she had a breakout season at Colgate. She beat out a group of graduating and NCAA veterans for the spot. Finally in net, Northeastern netminder and NCAA First Team All-American Gwyneth Philips grabbed the final spot.

Who got cut?

Up front we already knew there would be turnover with Amanda Kessel, Abby Roque and Becca Gilmore not at camp. What we didn't know is USA would also cut Gabbie Hughes, who has had a strong season with PWHL Ottawa up front to make room for another new face up front. It also meant forwards like Patty Kazmaier winner Izzy Daniel and finalist Casey O'Brien, along with PWHL Toronto forward Jesse Compher were all left off the roster. With Morrow cracking the blueline, it sent Rivalry Series standout Ally Simpson home.

Welcome Back

Kendall Coyne Schofield is back for Team USA, as is the PWHL's leading rookie scorer Grace Zumwinkle. Both will make their return to USA's lineup.
