Megan Keller and Shay Maloney of the Boston Fleet were on hand with SCORE Boston to celebrate a $50,000 donation made by the NHL Foundation under Keller's guidance.
Boston Fleet captain and PWHL Defender of the Year Megan Keller, and veteran Fleet forward Shay Maloney joined SCORE Boston’s for the official launch of their girl's program on Sunday, August 9.
The event came to be through funding by the NHL Foundation U.S. Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey.
“For a lot of the families we work with, the first time they’re experiencing hockey is through our program,” SCORE Boston Director of Community and Family Engagement Dallas Jackson said.
“It’s huge for our community to see women’s professional hockey back in Boston. It gives our girls players to look up to and see that they too can keep loving this sport and make a full-time career out of playing hockey. Oh, and a gold medal is pretty cool to look at too.”
Megan Keller, who scored the Olympic golden goal while representing Team USA in 2026, partnered with the NHL Foundation, who donated $100,000 to two organizations of Keller's choosing.
She chose the Michigan Suburban Hockey Foundation, and SCORE Boston.
Keller grew up playing in Michigan where the Farmington Hills, Michigan product played for Honeybaked. From there she committed to play NCAA hockey for Boston College, and has remained in the area including signing with the Boston Fleet ahead of the PWHL's inaugural season. Keller was named captain of the Fleet last season.
“Michigan and Boston are two places that have been pivotal to my hockey journey and SCORE was a great program to give the Boston grant to,” Keller said.
“They do so much to make hockey more accessible for kids who otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to start in the sport. Being able to get out here with some of the girls today and kick off the all-girls program was amazing. It was fun to play street hockey with them. I was playing goalie and took a few shots off the stomach; they’ve got some strong shots already. I’m looking forward to getting on the ice with some of these girls throughout next season.”
At the August 9 Girls in Sports Community Event, participants played street hockey with Keller and Maloney, learned lacrosse skills from members of the Women's Lacrosse League's (WLL) Boston Guard, and rugby skills from Women's Elite Rugby's (WER) Boston Baanshees.
