The Colorado Avalanche have promoted Kim Weiss to a full-time assistant coach role with the AHL's Colorado Eagles making her only the second woman in such a role at the AHL or NHL level alongside Jessica Campbell.
The Colorado Avalanche have promoted coach Kim Weiss to the role of assistant coach with the AHL's Colorago Eagles. Weiss had been serving as video coach for the organization but recently made her first on bench appearance with the organization.
She becomes just the second woman to serve as an assistant coach alongside Seattle Kraken assistant Jessica Campbell at the NHL or AHL levels.
“Kim has done a great job since joining the Eagles coaching staff, and this is a well-earned promotion,” said Avalanche Assistant General Manager and Eagles General Manager Kevin McDonald in a news release. “We’re excited to see her continued contributions to the team’s success in the future.”
Weiss, 36, joined the Colorado Eagles as the team's video coach in 2024.
Prior to that, Weiss was a guest coach at the last four Colorado Avalanche Development Camps and was an assistant coach for the Trinity College men's program at the NCAA DIII level in the 2023-24 season. Prior to that Weiss coached with the NAHL's Maryland Black Bears and girls' hockey with the Washington Pride.
Weiss played NCAA DIII hockey at Trinity College. She is also a current mmeber of the National Hockey League Coaches Association Female Coaches Program.
