Toronto Six defender Lindsay Eastwood is stepping away from professional hockey to join the OHL's Kitchener Rangers in a communications role.
After three seasons of professional hockey with the PHF's Toronto Six, defender Lindsay Eastwood has retired from pro hockey to take an off-ice role with the OHL's Kitchener Rangers.
Eastwood has been named the Rangers' Manager of Communications and Team Services.
“We are thrilled to announce Lindsay as our new communications and team services manager,” said Kitchener Rangers Chief Operating Officer Joe Birch in a team news release.
“Lindsay’s digital and social media experience with national brands like Sportsnet, BAND-AID, Nissan Canada, Ford and the Maple Leafs, paired with her experience as a professional player in our sport will be a special fit for the Rangers brand.”
Last season Eastwood, a Syracuse grad where she captained the school's women's hockey program, won an Isobel Cup title as a member of the Toronto Six.
“We are happy to welcome Lindsay to the Rangers family,” said Kitchener Rangers GM Mike McKenzie. “As a former professional hockey player, Lindsay will bring great experience to the way we travel and operate on the team services side of our program moving forward.”
Eastwood, 26, worked as an associate producer with Sportsnet, and worked on a number of marketing and communications projects for major brands.
“It’s such an honour to become a Ranger,” said Eastwood. “I know Kitchener is such a storied franchise, has so much history and a great reputation in the hockey world. I’m really looking forward to getting started and to serving the Rangers family.”
Eastwood is the first member of the PHF to retire from hockey this offseason. Shannon Turner the longtime captain of the Connecticut Whale also retired, but she announced her forthcoming retirement during the season.
