Mackenzie Alexander found the back of the net only minutes into overtime to lift Team Ontario Red to a U-18 national championship.

Ontario Red played a back and forth game with Team Quebec resulting in a 2-2 finish after regulation. Starting overtime on a powerplay however, Alexander pounced on a Caitlin Kraemer rebound beating Quebec netminder Marilou Gernier for the golden goal and a 3-2 win.

“I was just lucky enough to be right there to tap it in,” said Mackenzie Alexander. “We are such a tight-knit group, so to win gold with these girls is such an honour. This is an absolute dream come true.”

It was Alexander's second of the game as she also scored a third period goal. Claire Murdoch had Ontario Red's other goal.

For team Quebec, Marilou Grenier stopped 43 shots in the loss, keeping Quebec in the game from start to finish.

Quebec had goals from Victoria Veilleux and Rosalie Tremblay, but fell into penalty problems late as all three of Ontario Red's goals came with the player advantage.

Following the game, tournament awards were handed out as follows:

    • Best Forward: Morgan Jackson (British Columbia)
    • Best Goaltender: Hannah Clark (Ontario Red)
    • Best Defender: Rosalie Breton (Quebec)
    • Most Sportsmanlike: Mackenzie Alexander (Ontario Red)
    • MVP: Sara Manness (Manitoba)
