Kendall Doiron, 2008, is one of the top prospects in her age group in Canada. She'll draw a slew of interest from NCAA programs in the coming years.
Kendall Doiron has been on the radar in Atlantic Canada for some time, but she emerged into the national spotlight at the 2023 Esso Cup.
The youngest player on the Northern Selects, who won the Maritime title to advance to the Esso Cup, Doiron, born in 2008, played the tournament as a 14-year-old against athletes up to four years her senior.
Despite the age gap, Doiron displayed exceptional puckhandling skills and separation speed. Too young to commit to an NCAA program, Doiron will have no shortage of suitors moving forward. For her efforts at the Esso Cup, Doiron was named the tournament's Most Sportsmanlike player.
According to her North Selects coach Craig Clarke, there is a lot to love about Doiron's game.
"She’s got special hands and poise with the puck," Clarke said. "She’s a care free person who just loves the game. She loves practicing- first on and last off. If she’s not at practice she’s on an outdoor rink trying new things or shooting pucks at her house. She’s going to get better year end and year out has she grows and gets stronger. She’s happy to share anything whether it’s a puck or the spotlight."
That spotlight in the Esso Cup included winning a TSN 1v1 against Major League Baseball player Wendell Franco for a preliminary round between the legs goal.
In the regular season, Doiron led the Northern Selects in scoring with 18 goals and 31 points in 24 games, and was their top scorer again in the playoffs with eight points in six games.
Doiron, from Boyleston, Nova Scotia will certainly be heavily recruited by prep teams hoping to boost her already high NCAA prospects.
