The Stoney Creek University Showcase is one of, if not the most touted tournament for Junior women's hockey in North America.
68 teams from all corners of North American, including seven provinces and 14 states came together this weekend. That includes 27 from Ontario; five from Quebec; four from New York, Michigan, British Columbia, and Alberta; three from Illinois; two from Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Manitoba; and one from Ohio, Florida, New Brunswick, New Jersey, Indiana, Wisconsin, District of Columbia, PEI, Missouri, California, and Colorado.
The hometown Stoney Creek Sabres won the gold at the event shutting out Lovell Academy 3-0 n the championship game. Charlee Love, Aneta Paroubkova, and Olivia Decaria scored for Stoney Creek in the win, while Darby Oakes recorded the shutout. Stoney Creek forward Mikayla Barnes tied for the tournament lead in scoring seven goals and 13 points in six games.
Leading scorers included Brittyn Lybecker(6 goals, 8 points / Culver Academy), Bronwyn Caithness (2 goals, 8 points / Etobicoke Dolphins), Maïka Gauthier (4 goals, 9 points / John Abbott College), Kate Pasma (2 goals, 9 points / Mississauga Hurricanes), Avery Jones (2 goals, 8 points / Nepean Wildcats), Ryann Chimera (8 goals, 13 points / OHA Edmonton), Avery Sam (4 goals, 9 points / OHA Edmonton), Maggie Hughson (8 goals, 8 points / Ottawa Sens), Mikayla Barnes (7 goals, 13 points / Stoney Creek Sabres), Arabelle Weiss (4 goals, 9 points / Waterloo Ravens), and Isla McCoubrey (5 goals, 8 points / Waterloo Ravens).
From USA and Canada's U-18 series, close to 25 national team members were in competition as well.
