The 2025 PWHL Draft will be filled with talent, but perhaps no forward has the opportunity to shape the game like Colgate's Kristyna Kaltounkova.
Strong on face-offs, Kaltounkova can block shots, is defensively responsible providing back pressure, and when she arrives at a puck battle, Kaltounkova is a physical force.
Her physicality is a unique trait that will immediately help her adapt to the PWHL.
This season Kaltounkova made her senior national team debut with Czechia and immediately led the team in scoring and was named a World Championship All-Star.
The aspect of Kaltounkova's game that will catch the attention of PWHL teams, and next season goaltenders and defenders, is her natural goal scoring ability. She has a cannon of a shot and will be a dangerous weapon on the power play.
When looking at PWHL comparisons, her game resembles Marie-Philip Poulin, which is about as complimentary of a comparison as can be made.
This season Kaltounkova recorded 26 goals and 48 points in 37 games for Colgate, and added six points in seven games for Czechia at the World Championships.
For Kaltounkova, the opportunity to play in the PWHL is a dream come true, and one she didn't think would exist.
"Growing up, I dreamed of playing in the NHL. When I got to high school, I realized that’s just a dream, and it will never happen," Kaltounkova said. "I used to think that I could never be able to represent a city or have fans who aren’t from my country. The PWHL gives players like me the chance to experience a different life. I will make the most of this opportunity, and I hope to inspire others along the way. I am so grateful for the women that came before me to build this league and gave players like me this opportunity."
Off the ice, Kaltounkova is looking forward to contributing to the community wherever she is selected.
"I hope to be a well-rounded person and player," she said. "I want to be a positive member of my community and have worked with different organizations during my time at Colgate....Whatever city I am in, I want to work with those who are less fortunate - especially children. I want to be a role model and make an impact. I believe I am at my best when I am working towards that."
While at Colgate, Kaltounkova participated in DEI initiatives, worked with Athlete Ally to support LGBTQ+ athletes, and also worked with the Rising Raiders.
