Sara Hjalmarsson is one of the more veteran players entering the PWHL Draft. The 5-foot-9 centre plays an in your face game using her size and tenacity to generate offense.
After playing five seasons at Providence College in the NCAA, the Swedish forward has captained Linkoping in the SDHL the last two seasons. She's excited for what the PWHL has brought to women's hockey.
"I think the PWHL quickly is establishing itself as a league with a large fanbase and with the best players in the world," Hjalmarsson told The Hockey News. "It is a fast-pace, physical game that is fun to watch. It would be both challenging and a lot of fun having the opportunity to play with and against the best players in the world on a day-to-day basis. I strongly believe it would make me a better player, teammate and person. To see the growth of the league in only two years of existence has been incredible and it would be an honour to be part of the continued growth of the league and women’s hockey."
Hjalmarsson is tough in the corners and likes to get to the net front. She's also defensively conscious. Hjalmarsson is strong on the draw and protects the puck well.
Hjalmarsson has also become a staple of Sweden's senior national team serving as an assistant captain at the 2025 World Championships.
This season Hjalmarsson saw an offensive dip, but it coincided with Linkoping's struggles. She scored more than a point per game in her first SDHL season as she did in her final NCAA campaign.
At the 2025 Worlds she had five points in six games.
