Only five players did not find a roster spot in the PWHL as either a reserve or full time player. Here's a look at the players who did not land a roster spot.
The PWHL didn't announce the final cuts for each club, so here's a team-by-team look at who were the last players released following the PWHL's Preseason Camp in Utica, New York.
The change from two reserve positions to three this season greatly reduced the number of players cut.
Perhaps the biggest news in Boston was Emma Buckles, who had previously signed a one-year contract with the team losing out on her roster spot during the waiver period. Buckles stuck as a reserve, but was Boston's final cut. Boston also released the NWHL/PHF's fifth all-time leading scorer in 27-year-old McKenna Brand. Brand was in discussions with at least one other PWHL team about a reserve spot, but was not on a final roster. The final player let go from Boston's roster was defender Lauren MacInnis.
Every forward who participated with Minnesota at the PWHL Preseason Camp found a spot with the club either as a full time player or a reserve. The long term injury to Sydney Brodt opened a final spot. Minnesota did part ways with Sidney Morin. It was rumored Morin and the team couldn't come to terms on a contract, and Morin eventually landed a spot in Boston.
The lone cut from Montreal's roster was highly touted NCAA defender Maude Poulin-Labelle. It was a surprise move by the team who decided to keep Catherine Daoust on the back end instead, and the versatile Leah Lum up front. Poulin-Labelle was immediately picked up and signed by Toronto.
Emily Curlett was released from New York after spending last season with Team Adidas in the PWHPA.
The lone player released from Ottawa was NCAA standout Liliane Perreault who had 18 goals and 33 points in 37 games last season for Mercyhurst.
Toronto released defender Mellissa Channell who was picked up on waivers and signed by Minnesota. They also released netminder Amanda Makela.
