PWHL New York fell behind 3-0, but the lead proved surmountable as they scored four unanswered goals, capped off by Alex Carpenter's winner 2:12 into overtime. The goal gave New York a come from behind 4-3 win.
"The belief in our room is so strong and it finally showed today," said Carpenter following the win.
In the first period, Aneta Tejralova opened the scoring for Ottawa on a slapshot from the point. Ottawa looked to go ahead 2-0 late in the second, but officials waved off what appeared to be a good goal from Daryl Watts on a delayed penalty.
Early in the third period, Lexie Adzija scored her fourth of the season to put Ottawa up 2-0, and before the midway mark of the frame, Savannah Harmon scored her second of the year to give Ottawa a 3-0 lead.
As they've shown multiple times this season however, Ottawa struggled to hold the lead, and New York mounted the comeback.
Abby Roque got things going for New York with just over five minutes remaining in the third period banging home a rebound off a Jaime Bourbonnais shot. Less than a minute later, Jade Downie-Landry cut the lead to a single goal beating Emerance Maschmeyer with Jessie Eldridge and Chloe Aurard picking up helpers.
It then became the Alex Carpenter show as Carpenter tied the game on the powerplay at 16:33 of the third period, before ending the game in overtime.
Corinne Schroeder had another spectacular game between the pipes for New York stopped 39 shots in the win, while Maschmeyer stopped 27 in the loss in front of a sold out crowd of 8062 at TD Place Arena.
Ottawa drops into last overall, although they're also the only team in the PWHL who has yet to lose in regulation. They still have two games in hand over the teams above them. All PWHL teams now enter a 10 day break allowing for international competition including the Rivalry Series between Canada and the USA, and the Euro Hockey Tour involving Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and Czechia.
