Anna Bargman plays the game in areas others shy away from, and as the New York Sirens give the rookie more time, the results are beginning to follow.

As the New York Sirens continue to struggle, rookie Anna Bargman has shown game-by-game improvement this season climbing to 13th in rookie scoring this season.

In her last two games, Bargman has two goals and an assist for the Sirens. They were the first two games this season Bargman was given at least 10 minutes of ice time. With the increased opportunity came increased production.

Bargman has always been a player who gets the puck to scoring positions. In her time at Yale, Bargman was the top player in the nation among PWHL draft eligible players in expected goals.

Originally a soccer metric, hockey co-opted the advanced statistic and applied it to the ice. Throughout a game, or season, a played accumulates expected goals total, which are higher if the player gets pucks to and takes shot from high danger areas compared to players who stay on the periphery. It's a stat that scores positions like the slot, while also considering the angle and type of shot, higher than shots from the blueline or along the boards.

Bargman averaged an expected goals (xG) of 0.72 per game while playing for Yale. The players immediately trailing Bargman in the stat were Abbey Murphy, Lacey Eden, Vanessa Upson, Kristyna Kaltounkova, Jenna Buglioni, and Casey O'Brien.

Looking at Bargman's Net xG while with Yale, she was 10th among those in consideration for the 2025 PWHL Draft. She was sandwiched in the metric by Haley Winn and Nicole Gosling ahead of her and Kristyna Kaltounkova and Maddi Wheeler below her.

Net xG combines a player’s ability to drive high quality scoring chances, and suppress high quality scoring while they’re on the ice. Net xG looks at the expected goals for a player and their team while they are on the ice, verses the expected goals of their opponents while they’re on the ice. It looks at the likelihood a goal is scored for, or against, while a specific player is on the ice.

The 23-year-old Boxford, Massachusetts product was a fifth round pick, 33rd overall of the Sirens in 2025.

Her production, six points in 20 games, is currently outpacing 20 players selected above her. With Bargman's habits enter the league, her willingness to get to the difficult areas on the ice, it's no surprise.
