PWHL Boston already had Aerin Frankel signed to a guaranteed three-year deal, now they've added international star Emma Soderberg of Sweden on a two-year deal.

Soderberg was chosen 58th overall by Boston in the PWHL Draft, giving the team one of the strongest creases alongside Frankel. Soderberg was the Best Goaltender at the 2023 World Championships backstopping Sweden to the quarterfinals where they took Canada to overtime.

“I'm ecstatic to have signed Emma to our team," said GM Danielle Marmer. "She has had incredible success at the NCAA level and on the international stage, earning WCHA Goaltender of the Year, Swedish Player of the Year, and an IIHF All-Star award, to name a few. Emma is also no stranger to being part of an elite goalie duo and has consistently improved her game, whether as a starter or not. In building a team it was my goal to have a goalie pairing in which I’d have full confidence in either goalie being in net on any given night, and we absolutely have that with our Frankel and Söderberg duo. I value a goaltending pair where our goalies can compete, challenge, learn from, and support each other, and I can’t wait to see that transpire this season.”

The performance came off the heels of Soderberg earning WCHA Goaltender of the Year for the second time in her NCAA career backstopping Minnesota-Duluth. Soderberg posted a 1.39 GAA and .938 save percentage. She also collected 12 shutouts in 33 appearances.

“I’m super excited about signing with Boston! I’m very grateful for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to start this journey with my new teammates and to see what we can accomplish as a team in this new league," said Soderberg.

The 25-year-old had signed a two year contract with the PHF's Connecticut Whale prior to the acquisition of the league by the Mark Walter Group.
