Brianne Jenner leads PWHL Ottawa as team captain, and will do the same for Team Kloss at the Canadian Tire PWHL showcase tonight. Jenner will play alongside teammates Emily Clark and Emerance Maschmeyer at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Savannah Harmon will be the lone Ottawa player on Team King.

Announced this morning, the Oakville native will get to wear the ‘C’ in her hometown.

“It’s a huge honour,” Jenner said. “It’s pretty cool to be surrounded by so many great hockey players this weekend and women that I respect what they do off the ice as well. We’re having a blast so far.”

While the PWHL’s on-ice rivalries continue to develop, the upcoming weekend serves as a bonding opportunity for all players. Team Kloss teammate Taylor Heise has not had the opportunity to play with Jenner before but is not surprised by the announcement.

“She’s someone you can look up to, she does everything right,” said Heise. “She plays the game with integrity and plays hard. She’s obviously a mom of three, but does it with pride and does it in the best way. I’m honoured and very excited to play with her today.”

Each game has been a battle for the PWHL this season, but Thursday morning was all chatting on laughter for the players. Each player on the ice wore their own team jersey, with a nice colour scheme we hadn’t seen before. Fans lined up for autographs early in the morning, and Jenner has continued to soak in the PWHL’s growth.

“It’s about celebrating our league and I think we’re all feeling immensely proud,” she said. “Seeing the response, we’ve had from the hockey community; I think we’re all proud of the PWHL and thrilled to be here to represent it.”

The PWHL showcase will start right after the NHL All-Star draft, where the best in the league will face off in 3v3 style. The match will start around 8pm Eastern and will be broadcasted on Sportsnet and ESPN+.
