The Ottawa Charge extended their winning streak to six straight beating first place Boston in a 2-1 shootout in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,452 in Halifax.
Boston opened the scoring in the first period with Susanna Tapani recording her fourth of the season.
After a scoreless second period, Ottawa Charge captain Brianne Jenner continued her torrid start scoring the tying goal to match her goal total from the 2024-25 season only 12 games into 2025-26. She's now scored in three straight games.
“She leads by example every single day. She’s an incredible captain and leader for us. When she’s going, we’re all going," said Emily Clark of the Charge captain. "She’s been incredible for us this season.”
After overtime solved nothing, the Charge and Fleet went to a shootout.
Jenner scored in the shootout, as did Fanuza Kadirova and Katerina Mrazova for the Charge, while Sanni Ahola turned aside three of the five shooters she faced to add to her 31 saves in regulation to collect her first PWHL win.
“We had this Takeover Tour game circled on the calendar," said Jenner. "We knew it was going to be a packed house on the East Coast. Outside of TD Place, this is the loudest crowd we’ve heard this season. It was awesome.”
Halifax is considered a leading contender for PWHL expansion after selling out both of their games at Scotiabank Arena this season. The league has stated the plan to expand by 2-4 teams ahead of next season.
For Boston Fleet forward Jill Saulnier, it was an opportunity to play in front of friends and family in her home province of Nova Scotia.
“I've said it quite a few times since I've arrived here, but it's been a dream of mine to come back and play at home," said Saulnier. "I left home when I was really young, so to be able to play in front of all my friends and family, including people that flew back home for this game, was really special. What made it even better was the group that I'm with. Everyone with the Fleet and the environment in Boston has been a dream come true.”
