PWHL San Jose netminder Corinne Schroeder left Team Canada's camp after an undisclosed off-ice injury sent her from the arena in a wheelchair and boot.
PWHL San Jose, like every PWHL team, wanted to secure an experienced starting goalie that could carry the load through their inaugural season. General manager Troy Ryan went out and signed goaltender Corinne Schroeder, who backstopped the Seattle Torrent last season, and spent two seasons in the crease with the New York Sirens.
Schroeder however, left Team Canada's national team camp in Quebec City after suffering an injury during a pre-game off-ice warmup ahead of the final scrimmage between Team Canada Red and Team Canada White.
The pre-game injury was confirmed by Canadian head coach Kori Cheverie.
According to The Hockey News' Pat Laprade who is at Canada's camp in Quebec City, Schroeder was seen leaving the arena in a wheelchair with a walking boot on her right foot.
Schroeder, 5-foot-11, posted a 2.56 GAA and .915 save percentage in 17 appearances last season with Seattle.
Schroeder sits fifth all-time in games played with 52, posting a career save percentage of .921 and five shutouts.
While San Jose signed and secured Schroeder as their starter, depending on the severity of her injury, she may not be available to start camp with San Jose on November 18. The severity of Schoeder's injury however, remains unknown.
San Jose also signed free agent netminder Abbey Levy. Levy has played 13 career PWHL games over four seasons with the New York Sirens and Boston Fleet.
If Schroeder is not available, however, it's perhaps more likely that PWHL San Jose will lean on rookie Tia Chan. San Jose selected Chan in the third round, 28th overall at the 2026 PWHL Draft. Chan was the NCAA Goaltender of the Year in 2026 captaining UConn while posting a 27-8-2 and five shutouts, along with a .951 save percentage and 1.55 GAA.
Continue to follow this story for updates on Schroeder's status when it becomes available.
