    PHF Defender of the Year and Olympic gold medalist Kali Flanagan has signed a two-year contract with PWHL Toronto.

    Kali Flanagan, who was the 2022-2023 PHF Defender of the Year has signed a two-year contract with PWHL Toronto.

    “We are thrilled to welcome Kali to Toronto," said Toronto GM Gina Kingsbury. "Kali is an excellent defender that will bring international and professional experience to our blue line. We can’t wait to get started!” – 

    Last season with the PHF's Boston Pride Flanagan scored 16 points in 21 games from the blueline, and was selected to play in the PHF all-star game. 

    The 28-year-old won an Isobel Cup title with Boston in 2022.

    She's also a two-time gold medalist with Team USA winning an Olympic gold medal in 2018 and World Championship gold in 2017.

    “I’m so excited to be coming to Toronto to experience such a great hockey city and get to play with and against some of the best players in the world," said Flanagan. "I can’t wait to get started on this new adventure with such a great organization!” 

    Flanagan, a Boston College alumni, spent multiple seasons with the PWHPA before joining the PHF. She was the 35th overall pick in the PWHL Draft by Boston.

    Zafuto Join New York

    Another former PHF defender, Olivia Zafuto agreed to a one-year contract with PWHL New York this week.

    “Returning to her Tri-State region, Olivia is set to bolster our already formidable defensive brigade," said general manager Pascal Daoust. "Her versatility, reliability, and efficiency are assets we highly value, and we are confident she will make a significant impact on our team.” 

    Zafuto has four seasons of professional hockey under her belt playing in the PWHPA, SDHL, and last season with the PHF's Boston Pride.

    “I’m super excited to sign with New York and play in front of a new fan base in the inaugural PWHL season," said Zafuto. "I cannot wait to meet my teammates and staff and get working towards bringing home a championship!”
