For the second straight season, Liz Schepers scored the PWHL finals, Walter Cup winning goal. Last year it was a regulation win in Boston, this season it was the 2-1 overtime winning goal in front of 11,024 home fans in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Schepers, along with linemates Katy Knoll and Klara Hymlarova were clutch for the Minnesota Frost with Schepers scoring the game four overtime winner, Katy Knoll scoring the game three overtime winner and added an assist, while Hymlarova scored in game one and added two assists, including a helper on Schepers' series clinching goal.
"To have, you know, a coaching staff that has confidence in their fourth line, to play us in big moments, in overtimes, it gives us a ton of confidence, to go out there and to make plays and contribute to this team," said Schepers following the win. "I'm really happy we were able to take advantage of it obviously, and help the team out this playoff."
The Minnesota Frost were able to win their second consecutive without their top line of Taylor Heise, Kendall Coyne Schofield, or Michela Cava recording a point in the finals. Minnesota's top line were a constant threat and generate momentum, while their fourth line created the offense.
The line earned consistent praise throughout the playoffs for their ability to pin the Ottawa Charge in their own zone and generate scoring chances.
Schepers is a Mound, Minnesota native who joined the Frost as their 13th round pick in the inaugural 2023 PWHL Draft after playing for the Minnesota Whitecaps in the PHF. Schepers also won an NCAA national championship with Ohio State in 2022.
