New York Sirens defender Ella Shelton has been placed on long term injured reserve following a lower body injury. Subsequently, the Sirens have signed defender Olivia Knowles.

Ella Shelton has been placed on the PWHL's long-term injured reserve list after suffering a lower body injury in the New York Sirens' season opening game on December 1 against Minnesota.
Shelton finished second on the team in scoring last season notching 21 points in 24 games from the blueline.
The Sirens had been evaluating the severity of Shelton's injury, while also needing to secure another player to remain roster compliant with the collective bargaining agreement's 23-player roster mandate.
New York, having no reserve players on their roster, signed 25-year-old blueliner Olivia Knowles who had been signed as a reserve with the Toronto Sceptres.
“How could we not be thrilled to welcome another former team captain to the New York Sirens family,” said Pascal Daoust, Sirens General Manager. “Beyond her leadership, Olivia brings invaluable experience along with a physical and efficient style of play — essential qualities to compete at the highest level the PWHL has reached.”
Knowles played 20 PWHL games for Toronto during the inaugural season, notching one assist. A native of Campbell River, BC, Knowles spent her NCAA career at the University of Minnesota, where she was a team captain during her fifth and final year with the Gophers. Upon graduation, she played the 2022-23 season as a member of the PHF’s Minnesota Whitecaps.
