In front of 8,512 fans at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, the Boston Fleet needed a shootout to earn their second PWHL Takeover Tour win of the season, a 3-2 decision over the New York Sirens.
Sarah Fillier opened the scoring for the New York Sirens early in the game beating Aerin Frankel high blocker side. Frankel however, would find her way through to become the game's first star making 37 saves in the win.
"She's the best goalie in the world and countless times she's kept us in games," said Boston head coach Courtney Kessel following the game.
"She doesn't even surprise me anymore, both goalies were great tonight," Hannah Brandt echoed.
Loren Gabel got Boston's offense going with a high shot her own beating Kayle Osborne high glove side, before Jessie Eldridge put New York back up by one in the first. From there on out however, Aerin Frankel was unbeatable.
Late in the second Amanda Pelkey found a rebound on the power play to tie things up.
Frankel stopped five shots in overtime, and finished with turning aside all five attempts in the shootout, out waiting Noora Tulus, Sarah Fillier, and Abby Roque who all looked dangerous in their attempts.
On the other end, Kayle Osborne made key saves of her own in the shootout, but she couldn't stop Susanna Tapani's first attempt, which turned out to be the shootout winner.
