Kelly Pannek scored the overtime winning goal for the Minnesota Frost cooling the Toronto Sceptres with a 3-2 win.
On the power play in overtime, Taylor Heise found Pannek for the winner. It was Heise's third point of the game, lifting her to 19 points on the season, good for the league scoring lead.
Minnesota's Denisa Křížová scroed her first goal of the season and the first of the game with a backhand deke. Toronto answered back before the period was over with Emma Woods scoring her first of the season.
Toronto took the lead in period two with Daryl Watts batting the puck out of mid-air to put the Sceptres up 2-1, but Heise tied the game in the third on a slap shot goal.
Maddie Rooney took the win stopping 22 shots, while Raygan Kirk suffered the loss despite turning aside 32 shots.
Heise believes the Frost continue to head in the right direction with a group who trusts each other.
“It’s all trust. I think it’s trust in your coaches, trust in the people out there with you," Heise said.
"We’ve changed things enough where everyone knows which spot they’re in, and they should also know every other spot on the ice. If you get caught in a different spot, you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable. I think we work on it enough but also video and trusting your people out there. We have such an amazing group, and we have an amazing [penalty kill] we practice against. I think it’s all the practice and also just trusting in what you have.”
The win keeps Minnesota alone in third place in the PWHL standings. They return to action March 13 against Seattle. Toronto has a full week off before they host Seattle March 15.
