Natalie Snodgrass brings a north-south game with power forward traits to her play with the Minnesota Whitecaps. We break down the game tape.
Natalie Snodgrass was one of the PHF's top rookies in 2022-2023. She hit the scoresheet doing things coaches love - keeping her feet moving, driving the net, and shooting at will.
Snodgrass doesn't move laterally like some of the league's top scorers, but she uses her strength and shot to play a power forward style game. At first glance, it's a straight line approach where she's often the beneficiary of the work done by linemates, but her finishing ability is a trait you can't teach.
Snodgrass rarely hesitates to shoot, focusing on a quick release rather than making the extra move. One place Snodgrass thrives is on the right half board on the powerplay. Whether it's taking a pass for a one timer, or getting a dish from the blueline and walking the circle to a shooting lane, it's a spot she thrives in.
The simplicity of her game, driving to the net, cleaning up loose pucks, and taking the puck to the middle of the ice are characteristics that can be taught, but not without a sense of confidence and a fearless approach. Her feet are always moving toward the net.
At times Snodgrass turns and fires looking off balance, but the snap of her release finds its target more often than not.
