Sandra Abstreiter, a standout for NCAA's Providence College and internationally with Germany has signed with the PHF's Connecticut Whale.

The Connecticut Whale have landed one of the top NCAA free agents on the market, signing Germany's Sandra Abstreiter.
Abstreiter, 24, was crucial to Germany's performance at the IIHF women's World Championships helping her nation avoid relegation posting a 3-2-0 record and a 2.70 GAA and .929 save percentage at the tournament.
"The Pod is excited to announce the signing of Sandra Abstreiter,” head coach Colton Orr said in a team press release.
“Her impressive ability to read the game and make critical saves in high-pressure situations is a testament to her skill and dedication to the sport. At 6'0", her size and athleticism bring a commanding presence to our team, and we're confident that her experience playing for the German National Team and her leadership will be invaluable to our success. Sandra solidifies our goalie tandem, and we can't wait to see what she can bring to the ice and look forward to a promising season ahead."
The six-foot netminder was one of NCAA hockey's top netminders over the last half decade with Providence College. Last season Abstreiter posted a 1.88 GAA alongside a sparkling .924 save percentage for the Friars.
“I am really excited to join the Whale for my first year in the PHF,” Abstreiter said. “Right away I had a great feeling about the organization and coaches and am excited to see what we can accomplish this upcoming season. With them, I want to grow my game and help the team win a championship. I can't wait to meet my new teammates and get things started.”
Last season the Whale went with the tandem of Abbie Ives and Meeri Räisänen. This season the tandem will be a pair of NCAA grads in Emma Soderberg and Abstreiter.
